The Vote Against Apathy

Apathy: A state of indifference; lack of feeling, emotion, interest, or concern. No longer is apathy being spoken in the same sentence as politics with the emergence of presidential candidate Senator Barak Obama. His message of “change and hope” is being spread across this great nation faster than the annoying rhetoric of former President Bill Clinton and the ramblings of Britney Spears’ chaotic life in the tabloids. Senator Obama has reenergized this nation one way or another. I say one way or another because let’s face it; the color of his skin is still an issue to some in our nation. Some hide it better than others, and then there are the Pat Buchanans of the world, who will never admit that the message is the message we as a nation need just because of the color of his skin. They cannot look past their ignorance to understand his message. Economics, the Iraq War, and political party affiliations are the divisions that must be faced immediately by the next president. We are divided along so many lines that it is almost impossible to list them all. Senator Obama, no matter what the Billary campaign machine would like us to believe, is possibly the best chance at reuniting this nation and instilling the nationalism we all need to begin to play our part in making us ‘one’ again. Even the Republicans are beginning to fear his ability to unite the nation and the ability he has to pull members away from their base. My parents, aunts, and uncles tell me and my cousins that they have not seen this type of excitement about politics since the John F. Kennedy era. Obama has ignited a flame that will fuel our nation to be a nation of ‘one’ again, they consistently repeat to us. Really, have we ever been a nation of one? Should his skin color actually mean anything? Yes, because it will strongly signify that this nation has moved from its tarnished past to be one of let the best person succeed. Nothing more. It is his message that we must listen to with open minds. Is he qualified? Of course he is or he would be watching the Super Bowl with Representative Kucinich next weekend. The other reason is his message. It can never be repeated enough – we are a nation divided. I am a Republican. I am proud of my party for the most part but this administration has damaged my belief in them and what they can do for this nation. Senator Obama’s message has made me a believer in his ability to change the status quo politics we have experienced since the first President Bush’s term. I have looked across my party for that individual and though I have looked hard, that individual does not exist. Senator McCain exactly like the current administration Governor Romney cannot retain a stance long enough to make me believe anything he says though he does say some things that I would be behind. No one else on the Republican ticket matters to me. Giuliani is corrupt and Governor Huckabee is a religious zealot. Thanks but no thanks. We have both of them spread across the current administration enough as it is and where has it gotten us? The Democrats are not a bunch of blessed saviors either. Billary, yes it is the two of the running, a divider as demonstrated by their tactics thus far. But thank you though for destroying your party. Senator Edwards has some good points, but universal MANDATE D health care? My taxes are high enough without having to pay for someone else’s medical bills so no thank you. Senator Obama’s plan of affordable health care and some form of subsidies is about 92% where it needs to be. He gets the nod from this southern grown Republican for about 87% of his presidential plan. Work on illegal immigration and it will raise about 8%. He nor will anyone else receive 100% because no one is perfect. It is actually going to take a mixture of Republican and Democrats in the next administration to heal this nation and I believe both parties will follow Senator Obama and no other candidate. Isn’t it apparent that Senator Obama is a uniter and can bring this nation together? His impressive thumping of his rivals in South Carolina should prove a point. For the doubters, please look at the exit poll percentages. It was not all the African American vote that carried him but white males as well. I am not sure why the Latino community seems to back Senator Clinton because through all my research she has done nothing for them as a whole. Don’t even think she can grant driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants once she is in office because there is so much opposition from both parties to ensure that will never happen. Side note: Latinos are not the only illegal immigrants in this nation. So please do not believe she can assist with any illegal immigration issues. I digress. I will save the illegal immigration issue for another day. Senator Obama will receive my vote as well as many of my Republican and Independent friends; however, we have all agreed that if Billary gets the nod, we will support the Republican Party. If politics will continue as usual, I want my party in office. Because really, can the divide get any greater if the administration remains Republican?
