The Vote Against Apathy
Apathy: A state of indifference; lack of feeling, emotion, interest, or concern. No longer is apathy being spoken in the same sentence as politics with the emergence of presidential candidate Senator Barak Obama. His message of “change and hope” is being spread across this great nation faster than the annoying rhetoric of former President Bill Clinton and the ramblings of Britney Spears’ chaotic life in the tabloids. Senator Obama has reenergized this nation one way or another.
I say one way or another because let’s face it; the color of his skin is still an issue to some in our nation. Some hide it better than others, and then there are the Pat Buchanans of the world, who will never admit that the message is the message we as a nation need just because of the color of his skin. They cannot look past their ignorance to understand his message. Economics, the Iraq War, and political party affiliations are the divisions that must be faced immediately by the next president. We are divided along so many lines that it is almost impossible to list them all. Senator Obama, no matter what the Billary campaign machine would like us to believe, is possibly the best chance at reuniting this nation and instilling the nationalism we all need to begin to play our part in making us ‘one’ again. Even the Republicans are beginning to fear his ability to unite the nation and the ability he has to pull members away from their base. My parents, aunts, and uncles tell me and my cousins that they have not seen this type of excitement about politics since the John F. Kennedy era. Obama has ignited a flame that will fuel our nation to be a nation of ‘one’ again, they consistently repeat to us. Really, have we ever been a nation of one? Should his skin color actually mean anything? Yes, because it will strongly signify that this nation has moved from its tarnished past to be one of let the best person succeed. Nothing more. It is his message that we must listen to with open minds. Is he qualified? Of course he is or he would be watching the Super Bowl with Representative Kucinich next weekend.
The other reason is his message. It can never be repeated enough – we are a nation divided. I am a Republican. I am proud of my party for the most part but this administration has damaged my belief in them and what they can do for this nation. Senator Obama’s message has made me a believer in his ability to change the status quo politics we have experienced since the first President Bush’s term. I have looked across my party for that individual and though I have looked hard, that individual does not exist. Senator McCain exactly like the current administration Governor Romney cannot retain a stance long enough to make me believe anything he says though he does say some things that I would be behind. No one else on the Republican ticket matters to me. Giuliani is corrupt and Governor Huckabee is a religious zealot. Thanks but no thanks. We have both of them spread across the current administration enough as it is and where has it gotten us?
The Democrats are not a bunch of blessed saviors either. Billary, yes it is the two of the running, a divider as demonstrated by their tactics thus far. But thank you though for destroying your party. Senator Edwards has some good points, but universal MANDATE D health care? My taxes are high enough without having to pay for someone else’s medical bills so no thank you. Senator Obama’s plan of affordable health care and some form of subsidies is about 92% where it needs to be. He gets the nod from this southern grown Republican for about 87% of his presidential plan. Work on illegal immigration and it will raise about 8%. He nor will anyone else receive 100% because no one is perfect. It is actually going to take a mixture of Republican and Democrats in the next administration to heal this nation and I believe both parties will follow Senator Obama and no other candidate.
Isn’t it apparent that Senator Obama is a uniter and can bring this nation together? His impressive thumping of his rivals in South Carolina should prove a point. For the doubters, please look at the exit poll percentages. It was not all the African American vote that carried him but white males as well. I am not sure why the Latino community seems to back Senator Clinton because through all my research she has done nothing for them as a whole. Don’t even think she can grant driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants once she is in office because there is so much opposition from both parties to ensure that will never happen. Side note: Latinos are not the only illegal immigrants in this nation. So please do not believe she can assist with any illegal immigration issues. I digress. I will save the illegal immigration issue for another day.
Senator Obama will receive my vote as well as many of my Republican and Independent friends; however, we have all agreed that if Billary gets the nod, we will support the Republican Party. If politics will continue as usual, I want my party in office. Because really, can the divide get any greater if the administration remains Republican?

The Average Guy on Politics
Politics by no stretch of the imagination is easy to comprehend but by listening to the candidates and watching the news (not local), one could come to a reasonable opinion as to which way to vote or for whom they support. Politics is a fickle beast to say the least. It brings out the inner being of the candidates and/or their campaign organizers, which provides us with a glimpse of who they truly are. It is easy to see that the Giuliani and Clinton campaigns are politics as usual – smear politics. Are we to assume it was not an actual calculation for the Clinton campaign to distribute fraudulent emails about Senator Obama? For the Average Guy, it was just a stupid attempt to play upon the ignorant people of this nation and an attempt to play upon the fears of the unknown – Muslim beliefs. (Side note – how many non-Muslims have read a book about the Muslim belief enough to actually have an informed opinion? I have) I say foul on the Clinton campaign. And where is National Democratic Party with all of this deceptive politics going on? Can someone please find Howard Dean and ask him to get the kids to play nice? And they wonder why so many turn away from their party.
Why is Giuliani going on a verbal attack against other Republican candidates? He should be attacking or just plain firing his campaign manager or whomever the idiot was that recommended ignoring the early primaries and caucuses. With that mistake and his cities abysmal abortion rates he so inaccurately touted, his campaign is all but over. Can he be so naive to believe that the one state of Florida will resurrect his campaign? Who would want him or any of his advisers in the White House?
Never will I say I am the sharpest knife in the drawer and I will never say that I am the dullest either but for heaven’s sake, will someone please layout what the actual entrance and exit polls mean for the Average Guy? Let me see, Senator Obama was the leader in New Hampshire on both polls but Senator Clinton won. Am I to believe that thousands of people lied as they entered and exited the polls? Again, I am not stupid. I am not saying there is a conspiracy that allowed cheating by the Clinton campaign or the Democratic Party nor would I ever state that politics allows for such an occurrence. Because we all know that would never happen. For real, is anyone looking into this?
So what do the polls mean? Not a damn thing to me but for someone else they must mean something. I am waiting for Chris Matthews , Wolf Blitzer, or Chris Wallace to explain why they mean so much and why millions of donated dollars are being spent on inaccurate misguided polls. Good television I guess.
It is hard for anyone to believe that they are still utilizing divide and conquer techniques against African Americans still to this day? Not true you say. What about the Clinton and Obama campaigns? Both have some of the most ignorant supporters in the nation. Not all but some. On the Obama side, African Americans will vote for him just because he is African American, which is stupid. Would be ignorant but they know better. He actually has a great message and plan. And on the Clinton side, she is utilizing her husband’s popularity with African Americans to gain their votes. Again stupid, because he did nothing to equalize the great divide in our nation amongst the races. He only followed a bad president in the first President Bush. He, former President Clinton, raised taxes, did nothing for medical care, invaded Haiti (why?), invaded and pulled out of Somalia, shut down the federal government twice because he and Congress could not work together, brought in the Whitewater scandal, and had an affair in the Oval Office. And we want this repeated why?
It is an age difference in the support that I see for them. Younger African Americans support Obama and older African Americans support Clinton. The latter because older people resist and fight change, something Obama plans to bring with his administration. Change is a fascinating concept. Let me see – Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton? And the change is where. And people wonder why we are a nation in peril.
It is the overall picture I wish the American people would look at during this election. Our President is not doing so well and the Congress is doing even worse. A lot of Democrats in Congress will be removed and replaced with Republicans. The Democrats promised changes as they overtook Congress and have not delivered on anything. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is about as effective as a pencil in a coloring contest. Why does she even show up to work? She couldn’t get a bill passed if she were the deciding vote. Again, the Democratic Party is wondering why they are losing members to other parties.
The next President will have to work with the opposite party to accomplish even the smallest achievement. Can Senator Clinton do it? Not with her I, I , I campaign and her hidden experience she keeps referring to. Can Giuliani? When pigs fly or he either stops flip flopping. Can Governor Huckabee? He is too indecisive to rely on. Can Senator McCain? Way too Republican to even attempt to coexist. The only two that can probably do it are Senator Obama and Governor Romney with perhaps Senator Thompson and Senator Edwards as dark horses.
If we could just remove race and religion from politics imagine how many people would actually listen to the messages being delivered by the candidates. Governor Huckabee would already be at home. Giuliani would be vacationing on someone else’s dime. Senator Clinton would actually explain her experience versus criticizing Senator Obama for his lack thereof and then the next week utilizing his words as if they were her own (let’s not forget the Iran issue) or even better she would be in up-state New York or Arkansas or wherever she claims for her next advancement and out of the public eye. Perhaps Senator Edwards and Senator Thompson would actually be heard over the rhetoric. Aaahh wouldn’t that be nice.
Can you imagine an Obama/Edwards ticket? Karl Rove would have a heart attack at how fast they would go to the White House. They both have a method of listening, gathering the facts, and having an accurate and decisive outcome. I have thought long and hard for a Republican Vice President to run on the Romney ticket but a reliable non-egotistical name eludes me. How about an Obama/Romney ticket? Now that is the change this nation could use.
Intro of the Average Guy
I created this blog because I am tired of the media and other agencies providing me with "my" opinion on everything from politics to news broadcast. I am no one special and will never claim to be, but I do have a vote and an opinion. Since everything today is geared to the very wealthy and/or those of lesser means, I think I should speak out for the average guy (or gal). I am no Earth shaker, but what I write is based on how we see it for the most part. And what I see or think is not being stated - ANYWHERE. I talk to my friends and family and what I write is my opinion based on what we discuss about our world and this great nation. I do not mean to offend or ridicule anyone with my words. If you are offended, think about why - then correct yourself or make a difference to better the world.
